Powder welding is a thermal spray process where a metal powder is fed into an oxy-fuel flame and deposited onto a preheated surface. The powder partially melts and bonds with the substrate through diffusion and fusion.
Flame spraying involves melting a wire or powder feedstock in a flame (usually oxy-fuel) and propelling the molten particles onto a surface using compressed gas, sometimes from the combustion process. The particles solidify upon impact, forming a coating. This is a lower velocity technique then HVOF or HVAF
Spray and fuse welding is a two-step process: first, a metal powder is flame-sprayed onto the surface, then the coating is fused using a torch or furnace to create a metallurgical bond.
